[edit] The Welch Family

The Welch Family can trace their lineage back to man a named Otto Wulscher. Who participated in the Mercian revolt of 1072 against the regime of William the conqueror. As with many English families of great legacy, the Welch family has endeavored to preserve the likeness of the family hero, Otto, via inbreeding. For generations all the Welch men have looked almost identical with regards to facial characteristics. The method of visage preservation has also, unfortunately, taken a toll on the mental state of many of the Welch men over the generations, particularly with Rutherford Welch. His mental disarray is not exclusive to eccentric behavior, but also poor motor skills and the occasional nonsensical outburst. Any of his accomplishments have been aquired via sheer dumb luck.

[edit] Rutherford's Early Years

Rutherford was born in an old Roman town called Doncaster in the South Yorkshire district of England on August 20th 1893. His mother died when he was four years old and his father was a professional heretic.

As a child, Rutherford was seen as an eccentric boy. This was no surprise as his entire paternal and maternal family has a history of mental abnormalities as result of generations of inbreeding. This inbreeding began centuries ago as a means to preserve the family visage. Unfortunately by 1893 it had truly taken its toll. Rutherford was a completely autonomous individual with many talents, but his eccentricities made him subject to ridicule among his peers during those adolescent years.

These inhibitions, however, never phased Rutherford. At the age of 20 Rutherford set out to discover himself and moved to London. It's here that his life truly began.

[edit] Life in London and Outbreak of War

While teasing and ridicule was never a hindrance of Rutherford's as a child, he believed that he would need to fit in and be accepted in London to gain any ground socially or professionally. So Welch decided to invest his money in physical presentation, specifically in dress and grooming. One of his major purchases was a new product brought back from British India called Spruce Juice. It was a styling gel made from the oil of elephants. Welch became reliant on the gel to groom his mustache. For nearly a year Welch had spent three pounds sterling per week on this Spruce Juice. By March of the year 1914, Rutherford was broke and out of options, so he enlisted in the armed forces. Only four months of serving in the royal air force, Rutheford was given an assignment following the outbreak of the first world war.
